About the Work:
In The Slightest, Talia Hamburg explores the interplay of stillness and subtle change. Created for the "Yes What?" exhibition during a period of ongoing national tension, the installation reflects the artist’s observations of her surroundings, particularly the resilient yet constantly moving palm trees outside her window. These trees serve as symbols of endurance and gentle motion, contrasting with the fixed landscape of buildings and streets.
The installation is presented on a horizontal screen connected to a Raspberry Pi 4 with a Camera Module 3 discreetly positioned above, allowing it to respond in real-time to audience movement by overlaying subtle motion effects onto a static frame. Talia crafted the visuals by hand-painting palm trees in gouache and digitally blending them with 3D models. In her first Raspberry Pi experiment, she incorporated the camera’s live feed with blending modes and gentle animations to enhance interactivity. Through online resources and guidance from a technically skilled friend, she combined art and technology to create an experience that draws in the audience, blending subtle motion with artistic depth.
